I often get caught up by the stiffness that figurative painting can bring to my process. Sometimes, I like to loosen up and work on abstract, which informs figurative work. I draw my intention to expression without form and focus on color palette, composition, energy, and emotional state, without being so caught up in the explicit meaning. Somehow, lots of these pieces become more meaningful to me than the figurative ones, although they might be less accessible to others.
